Privacy Policy

Effective date: 10 March 2026 · Applies to: centuriontnews.co.za

1. Who We Are (ECT Act Disclosure)

This website, Centurion News (centuriontnews.co.za), is operated by:

This disclosure is made in compliance with Section 43 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECT Act).

Our designated Information Officer for POPIA purposes is reachable at [email protected].

2. What Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum personal information necessary to operate this news publication:

  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited — collected automatically by our hosting infrastructure (Cloudflare) for security and performance purposes.
  • Press release submissions: If you submit a press release via our Submit page, we collect your name, email address, organisation name, and the content of your submission.
  • Contact form: Name and email address when you contact us.
  • Cookies: We use only essential session cookies required for the site to function. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics scripts. See Section 5 below.

We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined in POPIA (health records, biometric data, political opinions, religious beliefs, etc.).

3. Why We Collect It (Lawful Basis)

Under POPIA, we process personal information on the following lawful bases:

  • Legitimate interest — operating a news publication, preventing abuse, and maintaining site security.
  • Contract performance — processing press release submissions you have paid for via the PR Daddy platform.
  • Consent — where you have explicitly provided information (e.g., contact forms). You may withdraw consent at any time.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • Publishing press releases you have submitted and paid for
  • Responding to enquiries sent via the contact form
  • Maintaining site security and preventing fraud
  • Complying with legal obligations

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for direct marketing without your explicit consent.

5. Cookies

This site uses essential cookies only — no tracking, no advertising, no analytics cookies. The cookies we set are:

  • Session cookie — a temporary cookie that expires when you close your browser, used to maintain your session state on the submit page.

Because we use only strictly necessary cookies, we are not required to obtain your prior consent under POPIA. Our cookie notice is displayed as a transparency measure, not a consent mechanism.

6. Data Sharing

Your personal information may be shared with:

  • Cloudflare Inc. — our hosting and CDN provider, which processes IP addresses and request logs for security purposes. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
  • PR Daddy (prdaddy.com) — our parent platform, which processes press release submissions and payments. See prdaddy.com Privacy Policy.
  • Legal authorities — where required by South African law or court order.

7. Your Rights Under POPIA

As a data subject under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — request that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Deletion — request that your personal information be deleted (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Objection — object to the processing of your personal information
  • Complaint — lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary:

  • Server logs: 30 days
  • Press release submissions: 3 years (for editorial record-keeping)
  • Contact form submissions: 12 months

9. Security

This site is served exclusively over HTTPS with TLS encryption via Cloudflare. All data in transit is encrypted. We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, or loss.

In the event of a data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected data subjects as required by POPIA.

10. International Transfers

As LinkDaddy LLC is based in the United States, your personal information may be transferred to and processed in the USA. Such transfers are made subject to appropriate safeguards, including standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where applicable.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the date of the most recent revision. Continued use of this site after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
